I made this card for two challenges: The Tuesday Teapot Challenge and the Alphabet Challenge for the Letter A.
Sue is the hostess for the Teapot Tuesday challenge and she chose a wonderful theme called, "Covered." We are to make a card based on the cover of a book we are reading or intend to read. Fun!
Ann is our hostess for the Alphabet challenge and the letter this week is A. The A's in this card are the animal (the cat), the annual flowers in the flower pot and all the books.
I just read this wonderfully heartwarming book about Dewey the library cat. As a kitten, Dewey was dumped into the book drop off on a very cold night and was nearly frozen to death when found by the library staff. They nursed him back to health and he took to the library like a fish to water. This abandoned cat changed the entire town and the people of this town in an amazing way. The entire time I was reading this book I kept thinking if only more people were like Dewey! The ending is sad, but the book is a wonderful read.
To make this card, I cut 4 very narrow strips of wood grain designer paper and adhered them onto the front of a piece of vanilla cardstock to create shelves. Stamped the images randomly on the shelves, then stamped the cat separately, die cut it and colored it orange to look like Dewey. Colored the images with copic markers and Zig Wink of Stella colored pens. These might be the tiniest images I have ever colored and it was a challenge to do. When done coloring, the card looked really bare, so I took the word stamps from the stamp set and stamped them in the open spaces. The library in my hometown always had vinyl words all over the walls so I thought I would mimic that on this card.

Very cute book card and Beautifully colored, Karen! I like the way you added all the sentiments on each shelf. I love the kitty snoozing among the books too~

One of my favourite books! I just love the look of that cat Dewey. I own this book too and I also bought this mag freebie, so it is especially fun to see you use it here. How genius the way you created those bookshelves. Love your idea of re-creating what your own town library had on their walls! your copic coloring looks awesome on all the books and pretty vase of flowers and Dewey the orange colored cat!

Karen this is brilliant...a bookshelf to illustrate your fav. Perfect! I bet those images were a challenge to color..you did a great job. And I know what you mean about the words on the wall at the library...I think ours still has those..in the kids area
