This card was made as an inspiration card for Try Stampin' on Tuesday sketch challenge. The optional part of the challenge was "flower power".
I called this card Where Flowers Grow - Bees Will Follow because I combined a honeycomb with a field of spring flowers. The honeycomb was die cut with a Stampin' Up! (SU) "Hexagon Hive". The die is unique because it cuts some of the hexagons out, but not others. I wanted to make the hive seem 3D, so I cut the main outline part out using SU Daffodil Delight cardstock, then cut another one with the darker Crushed Curry cardstock. Then, after laying the die-cut hive over a solid panel of the darker yellow, I used the darker yellow die-cut pieces from the second die-cut I did, and glued them over the "solid" cells of the lighter yellow. This makes the hive actually 3 layers for added depth.
The piece of floral pattern paper is from retired SU "Botanical Garden" pack. The bees were die-cut using the die from SU's "Detailed Dragonfly" thinlits dies. I cut them out of black cardstock, then backed each one with a piece of adhesive foam tape that is sticky on both sides. Then I die-cut the bees again out of a scrap piece of Daffodil Delight, and pieced the three yellow pieces into the bees' bodies. This technique is called "Die Cut Inlay" or "Paper Piecing".
There is plenty of room to add a sentiment at the top or bottom once I decide for which occasion I want to use the card.
I am rating the difficulty level of this card as a "3" out of a possible "5" due to the need to layer the hive comb, and die cut inlay. It is more like a "2.5" difficulty really.
