This card was made as a Design Team inspiration card for Try Stampin' on Tuesday sketch challenge. The challenge was to use an inspiration photo of flowers/succulents on a multi-layer shelf and/or a sketch showing horizontal elements with circles randomly placed. I chose to use both to create my card.
I had recently been to the Idaho Scrapbook Show in Boise, Idaho where Krazy Kreations had a booth showing their beautiful vinyl outline stickers. They allow you to create beautiful sparkly images by placing the stickers on fine micro glitter paper, then hand color in the images. I bought their large rolls of Scor-Tape and a jar of the glitter to economically create my own glitter paper using white cardstock as the base. You simply place the stickers, then color with alcohol markers, then cut out your masterpiece!
The set of stickers I used here are called "Succulents". The list of Copic marker colors I used can be found in the table below. The technique is very forgiving and easy to do!
The card base is a black to pick up on the black vinyl sticker outlines. The background paper is from Stampin' Up! (SU) "Magnolia Lane" Designer Series Paper (DSP), which I thought was great to emulate "shelves" in the inspiration photo.
The sentiment is from the SU "Petite Pairs" stamp set. I stamped it using Versafine Black Onyx ink onto white cardstock, then covered the words with a wide sheet of Scor-Tape, and after peeling off the backing, sprinkled the super fine transparent glitter over the top and rubbed it into the adhesive with circular finger motions. The glitter softens the letters, but they are very legible in person. I matted the sentiment circle with a black cardstock circle that I covered with Versamark, then dusted with clear embossing powder, and heat set. I wanted the mat for the sentiment to be as shiny as the succulent outlines.
All succulents were mounted to the card front with adhesive foam tape. The circle sentiment was mounted using a piece of craft foam I die cut out using the same circle die as the black matting. Because the craft foam was white, I used a Sharpie marker to color the edges of the foam black. Likewise, all the succulent images' edges were blackened with a Sharpie.
I am rating the difficulty of this card as a "2" out of a possible "5". The hardest part was hand cutting the succulents. I'm going to try my digital cutting machine next time to make it quicker.
This card would be good as a birthday card for either a guy or gal!
