This card was made as a Design Team inspiration card for Try Stampin' on Tuesday Sketch Challenge #443 which included the added challenge of also using a stitching technique for the card.
Since I'm always in need of masculine birthday cards, I used my retired Stampin' Up! (SU) "High Tide" set that included a really cool lighthouse. It's a two-step stamp, so the lighthouse itself was stamped in black, and the shadowing and light detail features stamped with SU Crumb Cake ink. The rocky base was stamped in Early Espresso. The cardstock it was stamped on is SU Very Vanilla.
The card base itself is also Crumb Cake. I chose the retired SU Designer Series Paper (DSP) stack "Going Places" with it's dark brown nautical map as the background of the card front, and the tan striped paper as the required vertical panel on the card front.
Both the nautical panel and the lighthouse panel were die cut using the Sizzix "Dotted Rectangles" dies. For the lighthouse panel, I also used an SU Crumb Cake marker to draw faux stitching between the holes.
The required vertical banner was a piece of crossgrain ribbon attached using super sticky Scor-Tape. All the paper panels were attached using Tombow glue.
The final element was the mandatory sentiment banner at the top of the card. For this, I stamped the greeting from SU "Birthday Banners" onto Very Vanilla, then die cut it using the matching SU "Bunch of Banners". The banner is unique in that it cuts out the matting and the center banner piece as separate pieces. So after cutting out the Very Vanilla portion, I die cut again using SU Chocolate Chip cardstock to make a contrasting mat that stood out against the darker brown pattern paper.
Because the card is essentially a one-layer card, it should be easy to mail without extra postage. I am rating the difficulty level as a "3" out of a possible "5" only because I had to fuss around with die cutting the stitched holes on the lighthouse panel. Its size did not match any of my die sizes, so I had to die cut it twice so that I could get the stitching on all four sides. This isn't super difficult, but does take patience.
I think it makes for a great masculine birthday card while meeting both the sketch and technique parts of the challenge!
