Iâm so excited to have been asked to be a Guest Designer for the Splitcoast Color Challenge this month! And for the first challenge of 2020, we have a blue, yellow & brown color combo, w/ trees as the dessert option. I donât tend to use a lot of brown so it was a good challenge for me.
Itâs kind of funny, but after I was told the colors, I went to bed that night & kept thinking âwhat am I going to make?â. When I woke up, I actually had a picture of this card in my head. All I had to do was to try create it. And a tree w/ a deer is actually an excellent way to work that brown in to the mix. For the bg panels, I used some blue Brushos on watercolor paper & just let the watery mixed blues run & spread down the paper. After it dried, I cut it into 3 panels & attached a little cardboard to the backs then onto a deckle edge espresso brown panel. I added a larger lt blue panel behind it then the die cut espresso tree on the left & a saffron yellow sun behind it. The deer was also attached to a matching cardboard die cut & I used Prismacolor Pencils to add the color.
Thanks so much for looking. It's on my blog w/ closeups & all the product links: The Write Stuff

What a beautiful scene! The three panels on the espresso deckle background panel just draw the eye in to appreciate your beautiful deer and tree. So gorgeous!

Welcome to the Color Challenge Design Team for January, Julie! I adore the scene you created; love the blue background paper you created and the way you cut it into three strips and backed it with the deckle edge layer. So many little touches came together to create such a special card!
