This is for Polly's fun MIX challenge from yesterday. I followed the recipe for homemade texture paste. Fortunately, I had a tiny bit of baking soda that I had borrowed from my mom for some reason. Baking soda is not a thing in my house. I have no idea what it is for and I don't bake. But I had just enough to make this texture paste. I also don't have Brushos (maybe this simply wasn't the challenge for me) but I did mix in some reinker. I think I may have done it too neatly, because I just ended up with gray texture paste. I spread it over a stencil onto a leftover gelli print background. I thought it was a pretty neat background for the card that my friend asked me to make for her stepson who is in the Army and was just promoted. I used some great Army style Colorbok DP, a wood sticker that mimics the stripes on the uniform, some twine and a big bold congrats. I hope he likes it!

Your description made me laugh..I can't believe you don't have any baking soda. Lucky you had some from your mom for the homemade texture paste. I like how yours turned out...great card for your friend's stepson.

I think you did a great job improvising, Jen. Nice texture from your stencil. I can tell you that with bought texture paste it takes a good bit of work to mix any powder in smoothly, so when I want coloured paste I prefer reinkers. I'd recommend a small tub of paste, my Winsor & Newton one didn't dry out at all over three years, and it's just now showing signs of it when it's almost empty. But you should have baking soda anyway ;-). Quite apart from baking items great household cleaner in all sorts of ways (I use it with vinegar in my kitchen sink), it's soothing for insect bites and your boys would really enjoy this: homemade volcano .
