Polly has given us a brilliant mixed media challenge today, we are to use texture paste through a stencil and colour it with brusho's.
The bones of these journal pages were started for a previous mixed media challenge that I didn't finish. They never looked right sitting side by side and I couldn't work out how to tie them together.
Pol's fun challenge solved that problem, I went berserk with lots of texture paste, brusho's and reinkers. By working across the book seam, it brought the girls together a bit more (you have to pretend that one of them does not have a head the size of an elephant).
My journal is very lumpy and bumpy so all the texture and warped pages look quite at home.
About the girls - they were printed on copy paper and coloured with Prismacolour pencils. Because I knew a lot of water and wet stuff would be used on the girls, I very firmly used a Prismacolour blending pencil to bring as much wax as possible to the surface.
I then used Jane Davenport paint pens and recoloured them. Basically the waxy layer of pencil acts as a sealed base coat for what ever comes next. Once the JD paint had dried I added more colour using pencils and distress inks.
I probably won't be leaving the house for a week...it will take that long for all the brusho and ink dyes to come off my fingers.
Thanks very much for looking.

This has got to be one of your most incredible creations yet! Besides your outstanding coloring skills your design work and mixed media work excel above all. We also need a tutorial of all the products you used. Love this!

WOWZA Susie you are the mad mistress of mixed media! You took my idea and went off the rails with it (and I mean that in a good way)...The way you combined all this in your journal pages and incorporated the girls in all this wonderful texture madness is the coolest! Love this! Thanks for bringing your creativity to the MIX challenge

I have to agree with Peeps this wonderful creation of all things mixed media could only belong to the Mistress of Mixed Media. There I was so proud of my one and only journal page! After seeing this I will go quietly and put away out of sight now. Had a good laugh about the vibrantly coloured fingers. Going to go back now and look at all the wonderful details.

These beauties add the perfect contrast to the lumps and bumps of your textures, with their flawless smooth and sensational skin and those amazing eyes. This is a marvelous piece of art.

I'm with Polly Susie, this an amazing gorgeous creation, love your colour choices and quite honestly you would have to be our creative queen of all things quirky off the page and on it. I'm on the phone at present but as soon as I can get to my laptop or PC I will be favouriting it. lol

Your art journal must be amazing. These girls certainly are. All that texture is incredible. I think my favourite bit is actually the added mesh die-cut, but I really like the green patch that looks, to me, like seaweed on the left page.

I have taught so many students when my fingers are blue from Brushos - great fun to use but boy don't they stain. I can't believe as students on teaching practice we used these with kids under 11!!!
Your girls are great and I love all the texture and colour on your pages.
