The last few weeks I've been noticing fashions using the reverse spotlighting technique. Not the one in our tutorials section, but the one we did for TLC46--leaving something white when everything else is colored. Anyway, I've loved these dresses and skirts I have noticed with fabric using this technique where the focal image is white and the background is colored--usually yellow in the ones I have noticed. When we did TLC46, I struggled with it. I wondered when it would ever be a great use of the technique. Through the years, I have found a few uses for the technique, but I love this one the best. Most of these fashions have been florals, but today I had butterflies on my mind, so it is butterflies.
BTW--for some reason, I find butterflies intimidating to color and that's why they were on my mind. But that's a subject for another card because I didn't have to color these butterflies.
Anyway, back to my story about women's fashion...I wanted to put this fresh look I saw in fabric onto a card and was turning over in my mind how to do it. I discarded all of my ideas as too difficult, not going to work, etc. Then I opened up the Technique challenge today and knew I had to try it.
The Medium: Acrylic Paint
I'm comfortable using paint to a certain extent. I'm more comfortable doing big format things with paint. I'm comfortable slapping it around for a messy technique. But I'm not comfortable being precise with it on a small format.
It turns out that the yellow paint worked with me on this one because I didn't get enough coverage with one coat to cover up the antennae. So fly, girl! You can do it!
This Artist Trading Card is for my ATC Technique album.

Sunny and happy. It reminds me of some of the fabric in my mother's stash, which I RAKed because it was brighter than I would ever wear. Neat that one coat of paint still let the antennae show through. I always think butterflies look better with them.
