This project started off as a single 'piece of cake', to provide family newly-weds with a gift of money. It evolved from there, with everything hand-cut but the flowers.
The paper choices and topper design (which contains fine white sand and small shells) were a nod to their beach destination wedding in the Bahamas.
Each cake 'slice' contained money, wishes, tips for a happy life together and marriage quotes.
The cake was 'served' on a revolving cake pedestal, also a gift.
In hindsight, I would have used flowers in a contrast color or replaced them with ribbon (similar to top right photo) to achieve a more elegant effect.
I hadn't considered doing something like this for a birthday or other event, but checked out beautiful paper 'cakes' on this website and have been inspired!
