This card was made as a Design Team card for Try Stampin' on Tuesday Sketch Challenge #425. The optional challenge was to make it an interactive card. I did both with a pull-out pocket with money in it!
The card base is Stampin' Up! (SU) Old Olive cardstock. The background paper is SU "Animal Expedition" Designer Series Paper (DSP) cut to 4"x 5-1/4" and glued to the base with Tombow.
The pocket was created by die cutting a circle from Whisper White cardstock, and a slightly larger scallop from SU Pear Pizzazz. The kangaroo with its pouch friend was cut out using a Scan N Cut CM350 from a sheet of cute animals in SU's "Animal Expedition" paper. I also cut two additional outlines of the kangaroo from green cardstock and glued them behind him so that it raised the kangaroo up off the white circle. I then cut out some fronds of leaves, which I tucked behind and in front of the kangaroo and attached with dabs of glue. The assembled scalloped circle was then attached to the card front using thin adhesive foam strips placed so that a pocket insert could easily fit behind the circle.
The pull-out pocket (the interactive part of the card) was created by first stamping a tag from SU's "Terrific Tags" using Pear Pizzazz ink, then punching it out using the matching SU tag punch. Using this tag as a guide, I cut a strip of Pear Pizzazz cardstock slightly wider than the white tag, then using a paper trimmer cut the top to match the tag. The green piece was cut long enough so that I could fold over the bottom to create a pocket into which money could be stuffed, yet still be visible above the scallop circle when tucked in. I used thin strips of Scor-Tape to close the sides of the strip to form the pocket. To finish the pull-out tag, I used a hole punch at the top, then threaded a piece of jute twine in to emphasize the tag was to be pulled out.
I like the idea that I created a pocket card with a kangaroo with her own pocket, too!
This card wasn't difficult once I envisioned what I wanted it to look like. I am rating it a difficulty level of "2" out of a possible "5". It could be made even simpler if you either fuzzy cut the kangaroo, or stamped her with the matching SU "Animal Outing" stamp set. It can be simplified even more if you don't stamp a tag on your pull-out tag - just leave it blank. The money speaks for itself!
