Starting Friday, I will be eating all the Michigan blueberries I can hold. I can hold a lot.
My first thought today when I read the challenge (such a great story, Denise!) was the children's book 'Blueberries for Sal.' Published in 1948 by Robert McCloskey, it tells the story of a little girl and her mother and a bear cub and his mother. I was 'published' in 1952 and I looked just like Sal. Towhead blond and wore overalls, which I hated. I also had shoes just like Sal's, although I think they were white. I have a feeling my overalls were hand- me-downs from my Mom's best friend, who had five boys.
The book is printed simply in blue images and type. I added a bit of color to the blueberry patch and Sal; I thought she needed some patches on her knees and a flower in her hair. Maybe I would have been happier if my overalls were orange with pretty patches and I had a flower in my hair.
'Blueberries for Sal' takes place on Blueberry Hill in Maine and won the Caldecott Honor Medal. It is always on a list of top children's books of all time.

What a sweet card and tribute to a favorite childhood book. I will have to give it to my little granddaughters, who help me pick from our patch every year. Your use of your scraps are so cute and prove why we cannot throw anything away!

So many happy memories this challenge has brought out. I love your sweet image, and such a sweet story you have told. I was too young to realize that the older sisters next door were anything more than just that. If we didn't pick blueberries for them, we had to weed their gardens. Like it was just yesterday.

Wow, as a former kindergarten teacher, that was always one of my favorite stories to read during blue week. A classic indeed..

Love the look of concentration on her face (and the patches on her knees, such a fun detail). Not a book I had heard of, but it sounds like a fun one. Since my mother lived in Canada for a good few years before making the final move here, we actually had a good supply of North American books in our family library - but not Sal.

what a treasured memory and reminder of an heartwarming author, who wrote of simple times!
We have all his books in our home library.
Your card is charming...love the patches on her knees...
a future tomboy for sure. And the lil' bit of glitter on the flowers is a nice touch...and those polka dots. I agree with Lori, just your scraps make wonderful art!
