My brother, who is an avid WWII buff, has a birthday coming up this month. I found this card on Pinterest, & wanted to see if I could recreate it, despite not having the airplane stamp. This aviation challenge gave me the perfect "excuse" to go ahead & make this card!
I found a WWII airplane coloring page online, & downloaded and printed it off. Since it was a .pdf file, I couldn't just open it in Photoshop. It was probably just as well, because it was just a line drawing--no coloring or shading. I took the printout, which I'd done on just plain copy paper, and colored the plane with my colored pencils, just in shades of warm grey & black. When I'd finished coloring, I scanned it into my computer, and opened that image in Photoshop. I digitally erased the background, so I had just the plane. (I counted all that as "prep" time for this challenge.) Then I moved the plane to a larger "canvas" and duplicated the layer 2 times, for a total of 3 images.
I positioned the front plane on the canvas. I did have to use the Distort tool & resize/rotate it, just to get the angle right. I then positioned & resized the middle plane, reducing the opacity of that layer to 70%, to make it lighter & add to the feeling of aerial perspective. I repeated the same process for the back plane, reducing the opacity further to 40%. Because the middle plane was now translucent, the right wheel of the back plane showed through a bit. So I took the eraser tool and erased just that portion of the back plane. Finally, I printed it out onto a 4.75x6.75" piece of tan cardstock.
I found a strip of a light khaki cardstock in my scraps, & cut it just a smidge wider than my panel. I die cut the top edge with a "Snow Drifts" die, and traced where it would go on my panel. I used Putty Archival ink to stamp my trees, going along the pencil line I'd drawn. Finally, I adhered the hill piece to my background, & trimmed off the overhanging bits.
I stamped my greeting in Black Shimmer ink. I liked the font, since I felt it has kind of a vintage-y vibe to it. I matted the panel with a 1/16"-wide black mat, and adhered that to a cream panel I'd mounted on a 5x7" card base. All in all, I still had almost 12.5 minutes left of my 1 hour time limit when I finished! And I am so pleased with how this turned out!

Wow that is a great image. I can only imagine removing the BG off the coloring page. I have tried removing some items from coloring pages and it is not as easy as one might think. This will make a wonderful card for your brother.
