The current Technique Lovers Challenge, TLC750 - Out of Your Comfort Zone - 7/8/19, was to get creative and use a coloring medium with NO images allowed.
Yikes!!! No stamps? No dies? No patterned paper? This challenge is definitely out of my comfort zone!!!
I have a brand new set of Russian watercolors that have intimidated me. They are gorgeous, with rich colors and easy pickup. Ive talked myself into watercoloring a few small images, but other than that they scare the dickens out of me. Watercolors are for artists, and that I am NOT!
This challenge is just what I needed to find that inner-artist wannabe. Ive been admiring beautiful watercolor and sponged skies done by the talented people here on SCS, so I went online and found a couple of videos on how to do easy watercolor clouds and skies. Here is a link to one of the videos I used for guidance:
Following the artists instructions, I did a wet wash on my taped-down watercolor paper. I followed that with a wash of Cerelium Blue watercolor, with as deep of pigment as I could manage from pan watercolors. The next step was to quickly daub the wet watercolor with a crumpled kleenex....oh, and it was to be done with an eye for a realistic cloud shape. Right!!!
Let me tell you, daubing with a wet crumpled Kleenex on wet pigment is like wearing a blindfold when doing pin-the-tail-on-the-donkey. Hit and miss at best and real surprise when you see the end result! This was WAY out of my comfort zone and I loved it!!! It was a nerve racking technique, messy and so dang fun.
The sample I used on this card was the smallest one that I did on scrap strip of watercolor paper. I diecut it with a Stitched rectangle die and then decided it looked too stiff, so I softened the edges by distressing with a scissor blade. To finish, I added a bit of sparkle to the cloud with a brush of Nuvo glitter pen and added some multi sized clear sequins to carry the eye to the sentiment.
Thanks so much to stopping by and looking at my out-of-the-comfort-zone Brighter Skies card.
PS Please ignore the really strange shadows around the cloud panel. The distesssed edge caught the light in an odd way. In real life, the edges are soft and ruffled, not browned out.

I laughed out loud when I read how nerve -racking dabbing wet tissue on water color was for you! (You would have had an all out killer heart attack if you'd tried the Dutch Pour)
You managed some lovely puffy clouds with this technique and bravo for stepping outside your comfort zone! The clear sequins have taken on a look of dew drops.

We are all artists, every one of us. Could we sell our art? Not necessarily but who cares? This is just divine, a gift from heaven. I love it so much, I fave'd it.

Oh, wow, how beautiful! It reminds me of my much treasured and long-hoarded blue sky paper from the Basic Grey Mellow collection. Love the added bling, and I so enjoyed your write-up too.
