I wanted to make a masculine card that wasn't tools, cars, fishing or golf since none of my guys are really into those types of hobbies. I thought a colorful abstract would work really well. The technique I used is called "stamp shifting" where you place a stamp(s) on a stamp positioner, then change the ink color and move the paper slightly and stamp again. A great tutorial on this can be found at: Stamp Shifting Tutorials at Splitcoaststampers
The stamps I chose were five of the rainbow shapes from Stampin' Up! (SU) set called "Sunshine & Rainbows". Since the stamps are photo-polymer, they can be bent to create different alignment from how they were molded. I placed them on my stamp positioner in an interesting pattern, then started stamping. I ended up using nine different colors!!! The trick is to repeat the stamping with each color until the patterns begin to overlap nicely. That's when you know to stop.
The sentiments were from an SU set called "Happy Birthday Everyone". Because I wanted to stamp on top of the colored lines, I chose to use Versamark and a black embossing powder to ensure a nice contrast.
I am rating the difficulty level of this card as a "2" out of a possible "5". The technique is super easy. The hard part is finding a stamp (or stamps) that can give you a nice abstract pattern. A good place to look for these type of stamps is in your collection of large background stamps that have open patterns.
