Spring is finally here! The tulips are opening, birds are singing, and butterflies are fluttering!!! In honor of this long-awaited season, I've created a Spring card in a lovely yellow with a wreath of flowers and butterflies flitting about.
The wreath was stamped using the retired 2015 Stampin' Up! (SU) "Circle of Spring" with Memento Tuxedo Black ink. The flowers and leaves were colored with a rainbow of Copic Marker colors (listed below). It was cut out with the matching SU die set "Wonderful Wreath". To create a mat around the wreath, I scanned the wreath with my Brother ScanNCut2 digital cutter, then added a 0.12" border, and cut it out of green cardstock.
The butterflies were stamped using the retired 2012 SU Papillon Potpourri set onto white cardstock, then colored with the same Copic markers used in the wreath. They were punched out using the matching SU punches.
I needed a nice short "spring" sentiment, but didn't have any stamps or dies that worked. So using my ScanNCut2, I chose a "springy" font to create the word, then after cutting it out, scanned it in again on a yellow background, and added a 0.12" border and cut that out as well on the SNC2. The purple sentiment was then permanently glued to the yellow matting with Tombow.
The final preparation step was to die cut the banner out from the purple cardstock. Since I wanted the banner longer than the die itself, I only ran it through the die, tail first, part way. Then removed the partially cut banner, and aligned each side to my paper trimmer to cut the length I needed.
The assembly of the card was pretty fast after getting all the elements together. The banner was glued on, the matted wreath was glued atop the banner. Then the butterflies each had a short strip of Scor-Tape on the back of their central body. Using my finger, I rolled the strips narrower so the sticky part was just on the body, and not the wings. Each of the three were then placed on the wreath with their wings bent up so they looked like they were just alighting on the flowers.
The sentiment was attached with numerous adhesive foam strips to raise it up off the wreath.
The card was inspired by three card challenges this week:
I am rating the difficulty of this card as a "3" out of a possible "5" due to the hand coloring and need to cut the sentiment. It would only be a "2" if you already have a stamp and die that would work for you.
