I've come across two very similar quotes recently:
Jean-Jacques Rousseau (died 1778 AD): " The world of reality has its limits; the world of imagination is boundless."
Zhang Heng (died 139 AD): "Real objects are difficult to represent, but the realm of the unreal is infinite."
I used part of the quote from Rousseau on this canvas, which is for Cathy's WTUI challenge this week. You'll be able to find her challenge HERE.
I started off by priming the canvas with gesso, than adding a couple of green paints at the bottom and blues and a little white at the top. While wet, I sprinkled some green Flower Soft into the grassy area.
I stamped, coloured (Polychromos pencils) and fussy-cut my fungi. The little ones are actually from one long border stamp. The tall one is - tall! I die-cut some foliage and sprinkled it over the grass along with my fungi. For the hollyhocks, I sponged some white card with DOX inks and die-cut them twice, green for the base, coloured for the flowers. The centres are filled with Stickles.
I decided the canvas needed some sort of framing, and luckily I had some washi tape in the perfect colours. I coated it with collage medium and hope it will stay stuck. In my garden I added a little hedgehog and squirrel from Lili of the Valley. Can't have a garden without birds so I added a couple from Bird Banter, and since we also need insects, I added two butterflies.
Plan A was to stamp a sentiment on tissue paper and stick it on, but my trial run didn't turn out as I was hoping. And I wasn't going to spoil the whole canvas by stamping on it and stamping badly, so I used letters to piece together my sentiment. I should probably have done it before I added the branch, but actually I really like the way "boundless" follows the line of the mushroom.

how amazing!!!!!!! i felt like i could walk into that garden. I've watched Small Spaces, Big Dreams with Monty Don. The gardens in England are wonderful and everyone seems so in love with their spaces, even if they are small.

Wow. I love your colorful imaginative world with lots of happy animals and fun plants and it goes with your quote so well. The washi tape around your canvas is the perfect touch too.

This just makes me so happy. We really are peeking into the imaginative perfect little world of a mushroom utopia with all the vibrant coloring and critters. The quote is awesome and framing the roof of that tall fungus was meant to be. Everything is placed perfectly and must have felt like putting a puzzle together. A masterpiece!

This is FABULOUS, Sabrina!!! I luv the birds, squirrel, hedgehog and butterflies. The mushrooms are so fun and colorful. The way the sentiment wraps around the large mushroom top is genius, as is the framing.
