I have been wanting to start a quote journal and having found one that I wanted to include as I was reading last week, I decided to start today. I used two pieces of dp and a dictionary page as my 3 patterns for the CAS challenge. It was quite clean in design before I wrote my lengthy quote! I used a gel print in my bg from a series of attempted image transfers that weren't stellar as such, but we're in a color combo that I ended up loving. I have a jar of coffe mixed with isopropyl alcohol that I use for staining and I added some around the edges and then also I "inked up" my Weathered stamp and stamped on some texture to the right side of the bg print. I tore the bird off my diecut and flipped the branch to make a tree.
I have this year and next left of homeschooling. I am down to just one student (our 6th child) and as I am coming to the end of this quarter century long venture. Understandably I am doing a lot of reflecting and as I prepare to sort through materials and divest, not a little.nostalgia. At any rate, this letter from a son to his parents in Ender in Exile by Orson Scott Card really resonated with me both as a parent and a daughter. He basically says, you did the best you knew. The last line that I included says, "I still feel your fingerprints in my life and soul, and where I find those traces of your parenthood I am glad of them."

It is the colors and textures that attracted me to your journal piece. I then read it. I would say that parenting is quite the job, not able to be replicated in two places. I don't have any children, but have always thought it to be one of the most difficult jobs. Enjoy the last 2 years of your homeschooling. You must be a special person to work with all of those kids Gail.

This journal piece is just beautiful, Gail. The colors and patterns you've combined are gorgeous together. I love the tree you created and the quote is truly beautiful and surely rings true to me, as a parent, daughter and retired teacher of young children.

What a lovely page from your journal! And kudos for home schooling six kids! I agree with everything you wrote as the hardest job is parenting, and it never ends. Congrats to you, Gail.

The way you wrote your fantastic quote around the tree really gives your card a fourth pattern! I love the visual flow of the words and the meaning in them really pulls you into this card! What a wonderful page in your journal! Enjoy your last couple of years and I'm sure your children have enjoyed their years with you as well!
