I love Japanese woodblock prints, especially the winter ones. Here I represent all four seasons: winter, spring, summer and fall, along with a kanji for harmony. I cut the little pictures from an old calendar I had saved. The prints are by Hasui Kawase, born in 1883. I used many layers of washi and handmade paper. I wanted it to look like a little gallery. I have a shadow box frame in which I will display this. Not a hard project but putzy and made up as I went along.

Wow Jean, what a gorgeous piece you've created! The four season prints are so beautiful, I can see why you held onto them. This is such an imaginative and lovely way to display them. It may have been putzy to put together, but definitely worth the effort!

What a lovely way to display your cherished images! I love the papers and am reminded I have quite a few of them stored away myself. Need to get them out! This will look fantastic in a shadow box. Kudos to you for this beautiful take on the sketch challenge!

do you live near Baltimore? If at all possible, you should go to the Walters museum, where there is a current exhibition on Japanese wood blocks, how they are made, and some prominent art, especially even into the post-Meiji era. Contact me if you ever get near Baltimore for this exhibition, I would be happy to meet you there and we could do it up. Thelen.Carol at Gmail.com

This is so creative and an excellent take on the SC. I love the art gallery you created with the wood block prints. This reminds me a lot of all the WPA art in the public buildings of the '30's. Absolutely wonderful. You should display it!!!
