I made this background for Sabrina's terrific challenge on Monday, unfortunately I added an extra step so I decided it didn't qualify.
I also tried to draw tree trunks on...major fail, then along came Lydia's fun challenge - if you muck it up, stick a bird on it!!! I am now in challenge heaven.
For the background I used Jane Davenport Inkredible ink - it's a dye-based ink that behaves like watercolour and best of all it is layerable. Jeannie (Luv2grdn) has assisted me in adding to the economy of Australia LOL.
Using scrunched up cling wrap, I dabbed on green, pink, purple and blue undiluted ink (it comes in glass bottles). The coverage was ok, but not brilliant and as I'm really frugal when it comes to using new supplies I didn't want to use any more.
I don't have the same attachment to old supplies, so I pulled out my Dylusions ink sprays, squirted two shades of blue on to some aluminium foil, squirted on a truckload of water, then dunked the entire card into the inky water.
There was a weird chemical reaction and like magic the entire background took on a dotty Monet sort of look. This was a complete fluke - no talent required!
My Christmas bird was stamped onto glossy photo paper using purple Stazon ink then coloured with Copics. I rummaged through my box of spare parts and found this hat, legs and shoes.
On the original digi image his legs and feet are pointing out, so I used Sharpie pens, being very heavy handed so it would bleed through to the other side. I flipped his left leg and now they face the same way (doodled a bit of black on to make them look the same).
I added some superfine glitter to his hat, doodled a border and job done. Thanks so much for looking and I hope you have a chance to get inky.

Talk about originality! A Santa bird! LOVE this. Outstanding job on the feet, suit and hat and love the colorful background. My gosh, this is so fun. It looks like it was fun to do too. I sure do get a kick out of those feet though.

Claude certainly does have a beautiful garden. Now, I'll have to check out that ink Jeannie lead you down the path to purchase. No talent required....I like that. And, then a truckload of water with your Delusions spray. Oh, I loved reading your post. And, I love your fun and very creative card.

Ooh, a crazy bird Santa! Now, aren't you creative! And look at those awesome legs and feet! It appears to me that Claude worked diligently to create such an awesome garden, Susie! Did you help him in any way? I bet you did by creating such an awesome background (oops, I meant garden), despite the weird chemical reaction. You can smash, swish, drag, pulverize, squirt, and sling anything and it turns out to be awesome, my special friend! And by the way, Claude is so very handsome! Ooh La La, I suspect that Trixie and Clementine would be willing to compete again in the Whykickamoocow contest if he were the prize! Whew, what fun that would be. Needless to say, I LOVE this awesome card, Susie!

Oh my Susie, what an amazing card Monet would be proud of you.
No talent indeed, you have bucket loads both in painting and writing.
I love quirky backgrounds and you never fail me kido, this one is brilliant. {{Hugs}}

Monet-like is right, it's fantastic. But it would frustrate me to think that I couldn't replicate it if I wanted to, that's my problem with messy techniques and why I don't want to use my nicest backgrounds, sigh. I'm trying to imagine dipping scrunched-up wrap into an ink bottle without spilling it all. But as I have a lot of old inks, I might have a go. I was going to say Santa Bird but I guess he's an elf with those little green frills around his shoes is magnifique, a tour de force. All the white trimmings look amazing. You and Anita sure do great things with glossy photo paper.

I can visualise you looking through spare parts and coming up with a hat, legs and shoes (interesting if you take it out of context!!!). Your chemical reaction background adds to the fun of this one

Susie, I am mesmerized by your background and can’t stop looking at it! The Monet-style finish is incredible and could never plan to create the look, let alone get that from a chemical reaction! Jane Davenport colors, in any medium, are like none other for their intense color.
I have a few dylusions spray, but no inks..... yet! ;)
Back to your card, your crazy bird pairs perfectly with you bg and love everything about this beauty!
Wonderfully done and very inspiring my friend!
