This is for Polly's fun mixed media challenge. Pol has challenged us to make a collage background using papers with text on it.
I used a page from Jane Eyre (always safe, no bad words) and a few pages from Improving Your Memory for Dummies (which I didn't even know I had LOL), a page from a cooking magazine and a page of stockists from a 2005 copy of Somerset Studio mixed media mag.
I tore up some pieces from the books and magazines and using a glue stick, adhered them to a 5"x 7" piece of cardstock.
After everything was nice and dry, I scrubbed a few distress inks over all the text then gave a light spritz with water.
Carmen and her friend are Vera Lane digi images printed on to copy paper, coloured with Prismacolour pencils and a blending pencil. A few Copic marker highlights were added. Fussy cut and stick on card. The girls lacked hair, so I used a Sharpie pen and fashioned a quick hairdo.
My desk is littered with beautiful lace from our Teapotters challenge, what better way to use it. Carmen's skirt is a Jane Eyre original.
Liquid pearls, stickles and a doodles border were added after I adhered the panel to a card base.
Thanks for a fun challenge Pol, you never fail to bring out my inner weirdo (picture big smile).

Fantastic aging and distressing of your super collage background, and a super doodled border. No need to ask which one of your stylish gals is Carmen with that wonderful fruit-bowl hat. I was thinking I'd need to get my background made before work to allow drying time. Love the plaid top, it looks so nice and cosy.

The collage background with doodled border looks fabulous, as does Carmen's lovely pleated skirt and her friend's attractive lacey lampshade hat LOL! A charming pair of ladies, Susie!

Talk about the height of fashion - right down to the lamp shade hat and the fruit salad hat. Must be Melbourne Cup coming up - that is where these two look like they are heading for - a day at the races. Love the way you have
aged the print background and the way you managed to in so many different print sources. I had such a good laugh over "Making use of a Vintage Brain". That is what mine feels like at the moment - ha ha.

Of course, I love this! I love quirky images and vintage colors and anything with cool eye shadow (except I was not fond of the extra eye shadow I put on Wednesday for 1980s look day at work - I had a bit much on - lol). Wonderfully fun and wonderfully done. Hugz

I think they need to start a new challenge called Weirdo Arty Stuff! This is brilliant....your distressed collage bg turned out great! The girls are so stylish in their lace trimmed gear...that pleated skirt is da bomb! And I want one of those lampshade hats..who knew it could look so cool. I assuming the gals have their arms behind their backs??!! They're being a little coy I think...

Fantastic...did you forget you had that memory book???? Jane Eyre is always good. And before I saw your title, I thought 'that's Carmen Miranda!' This is ingenious!

Your two model fashion plates think they are so cool, dressed to the nines yet retaining aloof expressions. Well, thanks to you working your magic, they are very cool, indeed.

Oh, sis! What an amazing card! I love your amazing creativity, and your background is fabulous (and so safe...hehe!). Beautifully done with all the sweet details using the scrap lace and Carmen's very proper and stylish skirt! Just so much about this is wonderful, but the best part is reading your description! You delight us all, sis! Love you to bits...always! Hugs and love! xoxo
