Robin and Francie have given us a fun "challenge" this week...Just Be You. Nothing makes me happier than colouring weirdo images on copy paper with pencils, fussy cutting and the Smack & Squirt technique for backgrounds. This card ticks all those boxes.
I have used this great Aurora Wings digi stamp several times now, some of you will have recognised the dead bird in her hair.
After colouring with Prismacolour pencils and Zest-It pencil blend, I used a fuchsia Copic marker on the flowers. I also coloured the liquid pearls in the flower centre with the same marker.
To take the bright white look away from the uncoloured bits (that I purposely left white), I gently swished my walnut stain distress ink foam blending tool over the entire image. It is best to do this step before you fussy cut. It probably wouldn't matter if you use cardstock, but the copy paper can rip easily.
The faux Northern Lights background is not the proper technique, but I like the effect and it's very easy to do. I smacked various distress ink pads onto a large piece of aluminium foil, squirted on heaps of water, then scrubbed the inky water onto a piece of cardstock using a foam blending tool.
Note: Smack the ink pads onto the foil far enough apart from each other so they don't merge and make mud.
While everything was still wet, I sprayed on some ironing spray starch (just cheap stuff, it works better than Fabulon). The ironing spray isn't as wet as water, so you can keep spraying it on until you have the desired speckly effect.
I also flicked on some white paint, some of it got on the card, we don't talk about where the rest of the paint ended up.
Once everything was nice and dry I covered the entire back of the image with a kids school glue stick and adhered her to the background. Finished off with more liquid pearls and a doodled border.
I made this sample for Robins challenge before we went away. Since coming home I have coloured a few more of this image. I find the best way to get my mojo back, is to repeat something I have made before.
Thanks for looking and I hope you get a chance to get inky and be YOU.

You are the only one I know that could make someone with a dead bird on her head look this gorgeous. The colors are so rich and beautiful, and the liquid pearls add beautiful dimension. Your coloring of her face is perfection. Spectacular.

No Susie - that bird is not dead. She is just perching there because she knows she is the perfect accessory! As for splats - I am still finding splats of coloured paints all over my crafting things and the last time I tried that was months ago. Guess we will have to get one of those new Tim Holtz "splat box" thingies - designed for energetic splatterers like us. Love all the little pearl dots and sparkle. Definitely Susie being Susie.
