This weekÂ’s Clean & Simple Challenge happened to be the 500th CAS challenge at SCS. ThatÂ’s quite a milestone!
CAS500 - Milestones - 9/24/18, theme coincidentally was to celebrate milestones! And the added part of the celebration was to include gold or silver, or both, in some part of your card.
When I read the word Silver, I immediately thought of silver salmon! You are no doubt thinking that is a weird word association, and you would be right..ha..
However, IÂ’m married to an avid fisherman who plans an annual trip to Alaska to fish for salmon. Any talk of Silvers at our house is always related to fish!
For those of you who are scratching your head saying, “Fish can’t run, they swim!”, you are only half right. The Silver Salmon do swim, they also make what is called a run. Every year the Silver Salmon leave the ocean and swim up a river to spawn, and after spawning they die...and the eggs hatch, those new fishies make it back to the ocean and grow and start the process all over again. Now that you know more about Silver’s than you ever wanted to, back to the card!
I made this card for my hubby, who just returned from his annual fishing trip to the back country of Kodiak, Alaska. He talks about how the Silvers are so thick in the river that they are pushing others out of the way to get further upstream. Quite a sight! This card was my effort to capture some of the magic of that experience.
The card was easily assembled once all the parts were die-cut. In case you are wondering about the stream/water die, itÂ’s actually a Woodgrain die (from Simon Says Stamps.). The die cuts all the way through on nearly all the lines of Woodgrain, so it was easy tuck the fish in wherever I wanted them.
Thanks for stopping by and looking at my Silver tribute to the Clean & Simple 500th Challenge. Why donÂ’t you join us in this milestone celebration and add your gold or silver creation to the gallery? It would be REALLY awesome if we could have 500 entries in the gallery for this CAS500 Challenge!

This is stunning! I love the thought behind the card. My hubby is from Sitka, 35 yrs there. His bro still fishes out of Petersburg. So yup - we know what Silvers are running. Pinks, Humpies (White Kings are my all time favorite)!

Ooh, Susy, I love everything about this! We're waiting for the snappers (baby bluefish) to run here! They swim out river to the ocean and there's so many of them, you can just look and see when they're running and we head down to the park with our fishing poles, because they are fun little fish to catch. Not very big, but they put up a good fight. Anyway, I so enjoyed your fish story. That sure sounds like a sight and such a fun trip! I can't get over how great that woodgrain die cut works for the water! And I love the way you placed the fish. Absolutely brilliant card, girlfriend!

Love this, on our side of the Cascade, they are beginning to appear in the rivers running into the Pacific. Your card is so fun...thanks for reminding us how much.
