My family & I got together today to celebrate my SIL's 40th birthday. A few days ago, my brother asked if I could make a couple of cards for this--one from him & one from their dogs. (I said yes, but did ask for more advance notice from now on.) This is the card I made for her from him.
I got my inspiration from this card I saw on Pinterest. I liked the bike with the balloons trailing behind. My brother & SIL have gotten into bike riding the past few months, and I was fairly certain her bike is teal, so I die cut the bicycle from a light teal cardstock. I colored the wheels with a black marker, and the seat, handlebar, & basket brown. I also added a little dark grey to the pedals.
For my background, I die cut a strip of dark grey cardstock, using a "Rounded Rectangle" die to cut the curved corners, to use as a "path" for the bike. I also used a scrap of bristol paper that I cut with the same die for the sky. I inked the bristol with Tumbled Glass, using the cloud stencil. I adhered both pieces to a bright blue panel that I had mounted to a card base, and used liquid glue in a precision-tip bottle to glue on the bike.
I die cut 5 balloons from different papers in my scrap stash. I glued the blue & red ones down first, and tied a single ply of white embroidery floss to the bottom of each. I did likewise with the other 3 balloons, making sure that all the strings stretched towards the bicycle. At this point, I had to tear the card front panel off the base (ever so carefully), so I could pierce a hole on either side of the bike, under the seat. (I know I could have pierced through the card base as well, but I hate having things like this showing on the insides of my cards.) I used a dental floss threader to help me get the balloon strings through the holes, and wrap them "around" that part of the bike. I remounted my card front, and then used Black Shimmer ink and my MISTI to stamp the greeting. I was apparently right with the color of the bike, because when my SIL opened this card, she said it looked a lot like hers!
