I finally found time to participate in the Friday Free For all challenge, F4A445 - Doing it old school - 8/31/18. The challenge was to use your own handwriting on a card front. The hostess suggested doing calligraphy and fancy schmancy stuff....my handwriting is atrocious enough without adding the a chisel point pen to mix!!!
My hand written sentiment was done with a sharpie type marker, and it was done with absolutely no planning ahead. Like planning how much cork tape I might need for the sentiment...I ran out of tape before I ran out of sentiment, so I punted by using another little pickup truck brad for the final word in the sentiment and splicing in another section of the cork tape under the brad to make it look like I planned it that way! Oy! I figured making the impossible card base was the challenge, and it turned out the challenge was in doing the sentiment.
The Impossible Card was so nerve wracking to attempt, and yet it was so easy to do after watching a couple of turtorials. Dina here on SCS did a fabulous one a few months ago, and Julie DiMatteo at thepaperpixie.com did an equally impressive tutorial that went a step further than Dina's. Julie figured out how to minimize wasting the designer paper used in the project, which was really important to me because I had one 6x6 piece of dp to work with.
Here's the link to her tutorial: https://thepaperpixie.com/2018/05/th...-tutorial.html
This was such a fun card to do because it was challenging on so many levels. I made a card base that was way out of my comfort range, I did a hand written sentiment - and fixed the flub in a fun and creative way, and I used a bunch of supplies (brads, wood flakes, cork tape, scrap patterned paper) that had been lingering unused in my craft stash.
I never suspected that all these blessings would result from participating in a simple challenge. It definitely gave my stamping mojo a much needed kick in the pants!
Thanks for cruising by & looking at my Impossible Little Pickup Truck.
