I got this image as a promotional freebie a few months ago from Craftin' Desert Divas. (It comes with a greeting as well, which I did not use for this card.) Since it was nowhere near fall at the time, I was really not in the mood to use it. But, with fall (sadly) right around the corner, and Send a Smile 4 Kids accepting fall cards right now, I decided to go ahead and use it.
I sized the image in Photoshop, and printed it onto a panel of watercolor paper. I used my Mijello Mission Gold watercolors to paint it. I have had these paints since my mom gave them to me for last Christmas, but have only really used them for backgrounds. Just the idea of painting an image with them was rather daunting! But, I figured this image is large with wide open spaces and not a lot of fiddly details, so it would be good for me to get my feet wet (pun intended) with my paints! It was not easy. I had to paint one area, and while that dried (I only used my heat tool twice when the color was getting particularly unruly), I moved on to another area that was not adjacent to the first (so the colors wouldn't run together). While I worked on that, I had to keep an eye on the first section as well, to make sure I didn't end up with unwanted blooms or hard edges. It was slow going, but I persevered, and I think it came out really well in the end! I think the pumpkin got a little too dark, but it still reads as a pumpkin, so that's OK. After the paint dried, I used a white Gellyroll pen to color in the spots on the owl's head.
To assemble the card, I cut a piece of patterned paper to 4x5-1/8". I made a small tick mark on the left side, that would be even with the bottom edge of my image panel when I mounted that. I used my flexible ruler to help me draw a curved line from that mark to the bottom right corner, then cut along that with my scissors. I erased any remaining pencil marks, and adhered that to my A2-size teal cardstock panel. I mounted my focal panel, and adhered a 1/4" wide strip of light green cardstock, to echo on the green on the leaves in my image. I stamped the greeting with Teal Zeal ink, punched it with a 1" circle punch, inked the perimeter with more Teal Zeal to hide the white edge, and glued it in place.
