I have a friend whose birthday is coming up next week. They just adopted 2 cats, one of whom is black. I had pinned this card some time ago, since I am also a cat person & just fell in love with it! I felt it would be perfect for this occasion!
I didn't have all the dies that the original card maker had used. I did have the Spellbinders oval & circle dies she mentioned, so I just used those & went from there. I die cut 2 body pieces with the smallest of the "Grand Circle Nestabilities." I scored one about 1/2" from the edge, added Scor Tape above the fold, and adhered the other circle to that to create my card base. I also cut a sliver off the bottom of the back circle, so the card would stand up properly.
I used the largest "Standard Circles SM" die to cut the head. I also cut the muzzle(?) with a "Classic Ovals SM" die, & 6 pieces for the paws with the smallest "Classic Ovals LG" die. I inked the perimeter of each piece (including the front of the card base) with Yeti ink, just to add a bit of highlighting & help each section stand out from the others. I glued my paws together with Perfect Paper Adhesive liquid glue, and glued the muzzle onto the head as well.
For the ears, I die cut one piece from black with a We R Memory Keepers "Oval" die. I also used the next size down to cut 2 pink ovals. I cut the black one in two, curving along the cut line, and glued a pink oval to each. After the glue dried, I trimmed off the excess pink, & glued each ear to the head.
I used one of the "Pennants Mega" triangle dies to trace for my nose. I cut that out with scissors, & glued it to the face. For the whiskers, I used another larger triangle from the same set. I traced the whole triangle onto a piece of vellum, sketched in sections for whiskers, adhered it to another piece of vellum with removable adhesive, and cut the whiskers with scissors. I separated the two pieces, erased my pencil lines, & used liquid glue to stick just the larger end of each to the face. I used a white gel pen to add some dots after the glue dried.
I punched two 3/4" circles from white cardstock, 5/8" circles from green, & 1/2" circles from black. I glued them together to create the eyes, and glued those to the head. I used my white gel pen to add catch lights to the eyes, as well as a shine mark to the nose. I also drew a mouth with the same pen.
To stick the head to the body/card base, I used an action wobbler. I don't know if it's because mine are a bit old, but the adhesive wouldn't stick very well. So I had to use some more PPA liquid glue to adhere that. It did the trick, though, and the wobbler just ups the cuteness factor on this card, imho! I cut a white liner for the inside with another circle die, cut the top & bottom to fit, and glued it inside the card. I really LOVE how this card came out, and hopefully my friend will get a kick out of it as well!
