Another card for Send a Smile 4 Kids. I printed the image onto vellum bristol paper, and colored it with my colored pencils. I used Gamsol on paper blending stumps to blend the colors out. I went over the eyes on the bear & bird with a black glaze pen. When that dried, I added white highlights to the bear's eyes with a gel pen. I also went over the letters on the sign with a black pen, since they'd gotten kind of covered with the colored pencil.
I wanted something different for the background, besides plain cardstock or patterned paper. (Plus, I couldn't find a patterned paper I liked with this image!) So I cut a piece of smooth bristol paper to A2 size, and blended Shaded Lilac Distress ink over the whole panel, mostly to "knock back" the white of the paper. I taped the "Diagonal Stripes" stencil over the panel, & inked with Faded Jeans Distress Oxide ink. Because the stencil wouldn't stick completely to the already-inked panel, I used more of a swiping motion than a circular motion to apply the ink, so the ink wouldn't go under the stencil. After I'd finished, I turned the stencil 90 degrees, and inked through it again with Mowed Lawn Distress Oxide ink, to give me a checkered pattern. Again, I used a swiping motion to apply the ink.
I adhered the focal panel with liquid glue, so it would stick to the still-damp inked panel. (I was too impatient to wait for the ink to dry!) I felt the left side needed a little something, so I wrapped some May Arts twine around the panel 3 times, and adhered both ends to the back of the panel. Finally, I tied a bow with the same twine around where the wrapped strings overlapped. I added a little liquid glue to the knot, just to make sure it won't come untied, and adhered the panel to a white card base.
