This card was made as a Design Team Card for Try Stampin' on Tuesday Color Challenge #4: https://TryStampinOnTuesday.blogspot.com requiring the use of yellow, green and pink colors.
Given the color scheme, and the fact I'm really not into making floral cards that much, I thought the cute dragon would be perfect. I stamped him onto Stampin' Up! Whisper White cardstock using Memento Jet Black ink, then hand colored him with green, pink and yellow Copic markers. The flame got its orange look by coloring it yellow, then over-coloring with pink.
Both the dragon and the little flame were cut out with the matching SU "Magical Mates Framelits Dies". I used my tiny paper snips to remove even more of the white background around his wing and inside his curled tail.
I used the second largest die in the SU "Stitched Shapes Framelits" to cut out a piece of retired textured SU Crushed Curry cardstock, and the largest circle die to cut the Pear Pizzazz matting for the yellow circle. The dragon and flame were attached to the yellow circle using adhesive foam strips, then the yellow circle was glued to the green circle using Tombow glue.
The sentiment is from the same stamp set. It was also stamped onto SU Whisper White cardstock using the Memento Jet Black ink. I die cut the sentiment out using the banner die from the "Magical Mates" Framelits set. I wanted it matted with a stitched matting, so I used my MISTI to hold down a scrap of the green paper and traced around the outside of the banner die lightly with a pencil. Then hand cut (fussy cut) the green matting out, taking care to cut the ends of the banner pointy like the die cuts (the outside of the die has rounded banner points).
Since the dies I used for the circles had the "stitched" look to them, I wanted the banner matting and the edge of the yellow main panel to have stitching as well. I accomplished this using my sewing machine without any thread in it. To keep the stitching straight, I cut a piece of thin chipboard and taped it to the sewing machine with painters tape as a guide for my larger panel so the stitches would be a consistent distance from the yellow panel edge. I eye-balled the stitches I made on the curved banner.
Finally, I assembled all the pieces. The matted banner and the matted dragon elements were attached using adhesive foam strips to raise them off the main panel surface for depth and added interest.
I like the textured "Crushed Curry" cardstock. I think as a main panel it gives the card more interest. I wish SU still made some of their cardstock textured.
I'm rating this card's difficulty level as a "3" out of a possible "5" because of the hand coloring, and the need to use a sewing machine to add stitch marks on the main panel and banner mat.
I think this will be a fun card to give one of my grand-daughters for their birthday, or even a friend who is young at heart!
