I love this sentiment from Newton's Nook. It was the perfect thing for this piece of Polished Stone.
When I was little, our vacations were always camping at the lake. It's the only thing we could afford. (My parents always chose the lake where they honeymooned, even though it wasn't nearby.) Lots of great camping memories there--including my Dad's army blanket (which we considered the warmest blanket in the world!) We also slept on army surplus cots. I'll always remember the visit from a critter who licked our skillet clean in the middle of the night.
When we moved to Georgia, there was a lake nearby and we could go for day trips. It was always a good day at the lake. Oh, and the hardest thing in the world was unloading the car after dark when you'd had a long, active day in the sun.
In the summer, Dad figured out that we could camp at the lake and he could drive in to work every day, so he managed to squeeze in a week or two of camping every summer.
