I was inspired by TGIFC Design Team member Bree Renwick's card in terms of layout. I sort of went crazy with the wood them on every layer of the card - including wood embossing, stamping, die cutting, and a wooden embellishment!
My card starts with a standard A2 sized card base made with Stampin' Up Early Espresso cardstock. On top of this I put a 4"x 5-1/4" piece of SU Very Vanilla cardstock that I stamped with SU background image "Hardwood" that was inked with SU Crumb Cake.
The next layer was a 3-1/2"x4-3/4" piece of Kraft cardstock that I had run thru my Big Shot using the Darice "Woodgrain" embossing folder that had been inked inside on the labeled panel using SU Early Espresso ink. This was glued down with Tombow glue so that it butted against the right edge of the woodgrain panel, and roughly centered top to bottom.
The next layer was a piece of retired cardstock from the SU "Sweat Pea" Designer Series Paper (3-1/2"x 4-1/4") that I had dragged my SU Crumb Cake ink pad across twice from the top, then twice more from the bottom. This was also glued with Tombow.
The next layer was five diecut leaves. Two were maple leaves from the SU "Seasonal Layers" Thinlits Dies cut from SU Island Indigo. The third maple leaf was cut from SU Crumb Cake cardstock. All three leaves were stamped with the leaf veins stamp from the SU "Colorful Seasons" set. The last two leafs were oak leaves that were cut using the SU "Flower Fair" Framelits Dies. These two leaves had "veins" pressed into them with a stylus on a foam pad, then crinkled using the "Crinkled Cardstock" technique of just wading them up and squeezing them to break the paper fibers, then flattening them out SLIGHTLY so they retained their crinkled look.
All five leaves were glued down using Tombow glue (the oak leaves were glued only at the stem end to allow them to show off their crinkling.)
The sentiment is from Hero Arts. The stamp is actually a single curing line of text, but using my MISTI I carefully inked only the word "Happy" with SU Early Espresso ink and stamped it, then moved the paper in the MISTI and inked and stamped the "Father's Day" portion centered below the first line onto SU Very Vanilla cardstock. This sentiment was then diecut using the second largest die of the SU "Stitched Shapes" Framelits Dies. It was mounted using adhesive foam strips over the leaves.
The final step was to hand color a wood acorn from SU's "Autumn Wooden Elements" embellishments using retired SU Stampin Write Markers in Creamy Caramel, Close to Cocoa, and Really Rust. A bow was then tied to the acorn stem using SU Linen Thread, and attached with a Mini Glue Dot.
I really enjoyed making this card - every layer was a new adventure! I think I met the "wood" them five times or more on this card :-D Thanks again Bree Renwick for the inspiration!
I am rating the difficulty level of this card at "3" out of "5". Not because it was particularly hard, but because so many techniques were used to create it.
