I needed a birthday card for someone special and thought it the perfect time to ink up/die cut some NBUS stuff from My Favorite Things that had been gathering dust.
I started with 2 pieces of scrap cardstock - sponged one with Squeezed Lemonade, Twisted Citron and Peacock Feathers Distress Oxides and sponged the other with Squeezed Lemonade, Carved Pumpkin and Candied Apple Distress Oxides. (I wasn't sure what colors I wanted my word die cut to be). Die cut the "celebrate" from each, as well as from 2 lightweight cardstock scraps.
Stamped and die cut all my other pieces. Colored. Used white gel pen to add polka dots to hippo's cheeks, gift, and party hats. Added highlights to balloons. Used Spectrum Noir clear pen to add sparkle to the balloons.
Stamped and embossed the sentiment.
I decided I liked the contrast of the yellow/green/blue world with the red/orange/yellow of the balloons and birds and gift. However, I decided to offset the yellow/orange/red word die to just be peeking out a bit to tie all the colors together. I like how the big word balances with the party hats and how the warm balloons/birds/gift balances with the peek of the similarly shaded "shadow" on the word.
Assembled the card as follows:
- Cut Bazzill Diamond Bling cardstock panel slightly smaller than my card base. Cut second panel of thin cardstock so that I'd have a little depth from the base.
- Die cut balloons in Bazzill panel and inset the colored balloons.
- Stacked 4 layers of the word die and attached to card base.
- Popped the hippo up with pop-dots.
- Added birds and party hats.
- Covered the balloons with Glossy Accents.
Inside sentiment: Wishing You a HIPPO BIRD-DAY
TFL!

Fabulous!! Love the shiny balloons, the adorable hippo and birds, and the terrific way you did the sentiment with the hint of orange peeping out from behind!
