This card is for the Technique Challenge and also the Fan Club Monthly Theme (blending)
My eldest step son has his birthday three days before mine and we are both either on or very close to Mothers day, in fact Andrew was the first baby born on Mothers Day back in 1981.
All the males in our family like beer and the boys / men really like designer beers.
Not sure what sort of beer this is but I'm hoping he will like it, we are all going out to lunch today.
The first challenge is the Technique Challenge to do a background using the the Wrinkle Free Distress Technique first introduced by Tim Holtz using distress inks, Susie aka susie australia also has a version using al-foil and spray starch which she calls the Slap and Squirt technique (uniquely susie lol) This technique is one of my favourites and if you look in my gallery you will find many cards using this technique as back grounds. I have started using baking paper over my craft mat to lay the inks down which is much easier because you just screw it up and through it away once finished, just make sure you don't have any clear stencils in amongst it, lol.
I have also found that using a mini mister to get a fine spray / beading is much better. For this card I swiped some SU inks (and yes they work just as well as distress inks, I have both lol) diagonally across the baking paper sprayed it then plonked the paper into it, lifted it straight up again, let it dry a little about two minutes and then re did areas with the remaining ink to get full coverage. Because the paper was still fairly wet it blended nicely, then I let it all dry while working on the beer mug image.
The Fan Club challenge for this month is blending, anyone would think I was nominating the challenges for this week/month as they are two of my all time favourites, so a blended background and copic blending of the beer mug.
I have used my DecoArt Snow Writer to give the head on the beer some dimension and I have popped up the mug and also the banner on some craft foam. White heat embossed the banner outline and in hindsight I think it would have been better in black but never mind, next time maybe.
Why not pop over to the Fan Club monthly challenge (link here April 2018 - Perfect Blend by UnderstandBlue at Splitcoaststampers) and have a look at the cards the Dirty Dozen girls have created for this month, they are just gorgeous.
Thanks for looking and happy stamping Marg

Wow, spectacular beer! Your family sounds like our family - we LOVE beer, specialty beers. My favorite is a hefeweizen, icy cold, with a big dripping head down the sides of a frozen mug. Hmmm. I think I need a beer now.

I too am a big beer fan! I love the head you've created for your mug of liquid sunshine! :-) That background is spectacular. I think I need to revisit that technique and practise some more. Wonderful card!

A super mug of beer, Marg. Love how you did the foam and the coloring of the beer itself is spot on. The bg adds to the card too. Great card for a beer lover.

I started to comment on this wonderful masculine card several hours ago and my computer went bonkers! Arrgghhh!
Marg...this is a fabulous WFD and spritzed background for your wonderfully foamy beer. It has such a lovely color combination. Your beer is so realistic and I love the banner sentiment!
