Robert Fulghum's book, What On Earth Have I Done?, includes an essay about a Valentine's Day Christmas tree. He tells about discovering a fully decorated tree in a nearby national forest, one mid-December. All the decorations were planned out and edible, wildlife friendly. Later, at Valentine's Day, he returned to find the tree undecorated. No tree was cut, and no fake plastic tree. The tree survived, and the decorating clearly was someone's family adventure in the outdoors: planning, preparing, decorating and un-decorating.
What a concept!
Maybe I'm fudging a little, going from national parks to national forests. Eh! I've been to the Grand Canyon several times. Spectacular, of course. Just not my happy place. Clean, sustainable woods for me!
