Saturday's inspiration challenge took us to a beautiful iris garden site. So many beautiful flowers, I had no idea there were so many kinds of irises and I don't even have one iris stamp! The colors in this inspired me: https://www.schreinersgardens.com/pa...5/pansy-purple as purple is my DH's favorite color.
I decided this would be a great time to try last Wednesday's watercolor on Yupo tutorial found here: Watercolor On Yupo® Tutorials at Splitcoaststampers This was a fun tutorial to try - I definitely need practice though. I did find out that, with Yupo paper, I needed to wipe it down with rubbing alcohol before starting otherwise oils left on the Yupo by my hands would repel paint. (This was after the fact learning!) I have had these Blick liquid watercolors for a long time, actually purchased them for my daughters, this was my first time to play with them. I really like them!
After following the tutorial, and fiddling and adjusting the results, I finally decided to leave it as you see it here otherwise it might never get made into a card! I edged it with Versamark and gold embossing powder and gold embossed the sentiment. The sentiment is popped up.
Thanks for looking!

Oooh your colors are so dreamy Catherine
I had my fingers crossed that people could just be inspired by the colors you know, I almost colored a rose using one of the irises as a jump start So I am glad you did.

Love that gorgeous purple flower, Catherine! Your inspiration piece is gorgeous, and it's nice to see that you used the color on a flower other than an iris!! You did a wonderful job of coloring on Yupo. Thanks for the tip; I didn't know that!

Wow Catherine, this is so stunning! This big purple bloom looks absolutely amazing among all the greenery and the pale blue sky. You look like a pro with this technique- I would never know it was your first time. I love the gold embossed edges and sentiment! You really outdid yourself with this challenge my friend! ~Karen.
I am with you on this. I had no idea there were so many irises, and not a one in my stamp collection. Thank you for pointing out this tutorial - love how yours turned out, especially the vivid colors.
