There were two features I knew I wanted to incorporate into my card design...one was the Basket Weave Edge (aka Braided Edge) technique, a Tutorial available on the SCS site. It is fun to do and gives an amazing result. Since the card was to be a Valentine, the other was a peek-a-boo heart using washi tape peeking through, similar to something I had done several years ago with a Christmas tree window and ribbon peeking through.
I knew I wanted to enter this card into one of my unfinished letters on the Alphabet Challenge, Round 8. After looking over other available challenges on SCS, I let several guide my creative mojo; therefore, I am entering the following:
#1 - Alphabet Challenge, Round 8, Letter D - DD8ABC4D - 9/6/17...no double challenge for me on this round. I decided to use an embossing folder with DOTS for letter D, which would give my card front some dimension. My card title came to mind from dots... Valentine Dots & Hugs for Friends!
#2 - Ways to Use It Challenge - WT674 - 2/8/18 - "Whatever Suits You." Make a card incorporating all or part of the symbols or their representations in a deck of cards...spades, hearts, diamonds, and/or clubs or a garden spade, an engagement ring, or caveman weapon, etc. My peek-a-boo heart punched out will be my deck of cards symbol.
#3 - Inspiration Challenge - IC636 - 2/12/18 - browse the Spoonflower website for inspiration. From this fabric pattern: https://www.spoonflower.com/fabric/6...-hipkiddesigns, inspiring me to use these non-traditional Valentine Colors in the spring-like hues of sapphire blue, medium pink, and yellow.
#4 - 2018 Use It Challenge - USEIT2018 - year-around challenge to use old and new but never used materials and tools. My Stampin' Up Happy Days stamps, the Perfect Polka Dot embossing folder and the "Full Heart" punch are over nine years old, are now retired and have been gathering dust for well over three years. My Technique Tuesday DiHeart "hugs" die is two-years old and brand new but never used!

This is such a cute Valentine! Love the texture, the use of the Braided Weave Edge as well as the use of the heart punch, washi tape and "Hugs" die. Thanks for inspiring all of us to use what we have- hugs to you, sweet friend!

Your washi tape heart is just so pretty in those spring colors and the basket weave border looks great. You are a queen of challenges.

Darling! Love the heart-shaped window with the washi tape underneath. The colors are gorgeous! The lattice weave edge is fabulous and thank you for the reminder on that design. Love the embossed dots. Too much to mention everything; love it all. Well done working in so many challenges. Thank you for all your notes and list of supplies. Good for you using retired supplies!
