I'd been watching videos where jumbo tags were used in albums and had fallen in love...the problem was that they weren't big enough for what I wanted to do. I'd seen people posting ATC's but again I wanted BIG
Undeterred, I set about making my own as part of my Year in Review Album. I wanted to depict how hot it was here one day on one side, with the back of the tag depicting the change in weather to a rainy and what we would term cold day here in Oz
I also wanted the tag to be fun and give me an opportunity to try out some of my mixed media stamps and products that have been sitting in my stash for some time.
Gesso was brushed, spread and wiped onto each side of the tag as a base. Different gelatos scribbled on, lots of water spraying, spreading and dabbing. When dry I added some Lindy's magicals....lots of dabbing and spraying. Clouds stencilled on using texture paste.
I also wanted to use some paper towels and toilet paper I had swiped with colour for a challenge, and was just trying to work out how to use them when I remembered that my GS had made flowers out of chocolate wrappers.... so out come my circle dies and I'm cutting them up. Gee they stick to the BS plates and by now were pretty flimsy.
I'd also got a bag of used baby wipes and thought they would come in handy, so off I merrily go die cutting those too. Flowers made and stapled.
I'd also wanted to use a fun stamp set I'd had sitting in my stash for months....so meet "Topsy Turvy" (Aka Ruby Rainbow) but aptly named as I'm also all over the place and she was plonked on this "scene".
As we are in summer, her outfit had to go, so more baby wipes and the remaining paper towel/loo paper bits and she's got a much more appropriate outfit. I did want to put a sundress on her but couldn't figure how to do this Boots had to stay so lots of bling was added to them and her dress. The hair also had to go and I was going to give her quite a trim but stopped just in time and sunnies stamped and popped on. Ah...that was much better for my scene LOL, and what a trendsetter she is decked out in baby wipes and loo paper!
Tree stumps stamped, birds and butterflies added and still not right. More colour, more water, when I had a eureka moment. I had a tube of these little green thingies...sparkly bits...so glue on and sprinkled. Much better. More stickles, Wink of Stella added...any kind of bling when I spot a piece of toilet paper. Perfect for a butterfly stamped with some black edges.
All it needed was the temperature and date stamped on it and done. Well, this is what I should have told myself, but as with any mixed media thing I do, I keep going.
Large blingy numbers added on the butterfly...it was at this stage I realised I shouldn't have done that and when peeling them off, some of the loo paper came off and ripped. Good job I had some loo paper left...a smaller butterfly, albeit not as colourful, cut and popped on top. Phew...that was close. Bling readded and smaller numbers popped further down the tag.
Well that's done for the warmer weather side....now all I have to do is figure out how I'm going to do the other side without getting this side destroyed or changed.
I do love trying out new things and as always, I had fun.
TFL. Happy day

What a super mixed media tag, Jayne. It's obvious you had great fun making it! I know rachelrose/Robin makes big tags, I think some of hers might be as much as 10" high. Too big for me, but they sound as if they might be right up your street. The little flowers are cute.

What an amazing tag! I love the mixed media look and all the texture. So cute and whimsical. I will not complain about our -16 degree morning, as I would prefer it to 37 degrees!

Wonderful mixed media tag! Wow! You really put so much into it. I'm laughing a little at the "used baby wipes" part...I hope they weren't used for their intended purpose, lol. Great job on this!
I love Topsy Turvy! Your description was like a story in itself! Love your mixed media tag, but when I do all the stuff you say you did, mine goes into the trash!
