First, I want to apologize for the very poor quality of the photos of this card, they were taken with my Ipod after I'd traveled to the east coast of Canada to be with my family for 2 family birthdays and Christmas. Lesson learned!!!
This is a close-up shot of the focal happy birthday image and the stitching background.
This card was made for my Mom to celebrate her on her 80th birthday. She is a master-crafter in many mediums but especially in cross-stitching, and it was my desire for some time to find a way of creating a very special card to show her my love, appreciation, and respect as my Mom by learning to stitch and to create the best card I could for her birthday, and as well to create a large all-occasion set of hand-stitched cards as a gift for her.
I made over 30 hand-stitched backgrounds in about a 2-month period, these are in the process of being put together as cards with a variety of sentiments. I know only a very few basic stitches, and those are what I used in the backgrounds. What I have discovered is that stitching is very relaxing and very fun to do, and I have a desire to learn more about it, but only in the context of making cards.
I am so very grateful to be a member of Splitcoaststampers, I have met the kindest, most generous artists here who have taught me so much, and who have encouraged me in my cardmaking path. I hope that I can be an encouragement to others.
Thank you for taking a look at my card, and if you've left a comment, please know that you have more than made my day!

It is lovely and the back story is very touching. I like that you used shiny silver for the tools.
Only b/c you asked not that you need to b/c like I said this is great...you might want to take a look at Jennifer McGuire-she does stitched cards. :) There are a couple of dies she will show you that will help you a lot with more ideas.

Oh, Joanne, this closeup is amazing! I love seeing the perfect cross-stitching and the beautiful details of the silver dies that have such beautiful definition. This is stunning, and I know that your mom loved it dearly and will cherish it. I know you cherish the times with your mom, and I miss my mom dearly. But I praise God that I know I shall see her one day again. What a glorious day it will be for us as we see Jesus face to face! Again, this is truly a gift from your heart!! Much love and warm hugs! xoxo

Holy smokes! This is terrific! My daughter does x-stitch. She would really get a kick out of this. Your loving tribute to your mom really shines through on this card. I love the silver sewing tools and your great sentiment! Your mom will surely appreciate this. The rainbow of colours is so beautiful!
