For contrast, I used matte silver cardstock on the inside of the card for the die-cuts vs the mirror silver cardstock I used on the front of the card.
This was an extremely special card for me to make, and I spent more than 2 months creating over 30 hand-stitched backgrounds to create not only my Mom's 80th birthday card but also to create a large variety set of hand-stitched cards as a gift to my Mom, so that she could send those to her friends who cross-stitch.
I am not a stitcher, I watched a YouTube by Jennifer McGuire and bought the die and started stitching. But I had been looking extensively at what was out there in hand-stitching to see what was being done to give me ideas. I hope to continue to create the best stitched cards that I can make to give to my Mom, someone who creates at a level I will never be able to achieve, but I enjoy what I create, and I am excited when I see improvement in my work. Seeing her pleasure when she opened the card and her positive comments meant more than I know how to say!
The pattern of the hand-stitched piece on the front of this card as well as the color combination are both my own.
How do you say thank you to your Mom when she reaches 80? I'm not sure it's really possible, but I hope that she saw in this card and in those she will receive as a set, that I put a great deal of love and effort into creating them as a tribute to her, and as a way of showing my gratitude to her as my Mom, and for all she has done for our family.
