Polly had a suggestion about burning the edges, but I was afraid that I might burn down the house. So I faked it by tearing the edges with a tearing ruler and then sponging on umber brown.

I love the image of that old car and the sentiment. I think your faux burned edges look great Sallie! I wouldn't want to be responsible for any fires today so I'm glad you stuck to sponging ;) Thanks for playing along!

Beautiful, Sallie. I'm with you on the burning. I was going through recipes the other night and came across one that, several years ago, had gotten too close to the (gas) stove burner. Lucky that I was right there to get it out before it had a chance to grow.

Super-cool vintage look here, Sallie. I prefer the safety of faux burnt edges too. Memories of my brother carefully burning the edges of a piece of calligraphy when he was in art college, and having to re-do all the calligraphy!

Good solution for imitating the results of burnt edges! I'm with you - I'd be scared I'd set something on fire! Fabulous mixed media look and a great sentiment!

The aged background looks great for your antique car! Love the sentiment!
A long time ago I made several decoupage pieces on wood. I would burn the edges. Not anymore.

Great vintage card! The faux burnt edges look great, and that layered background is fab.
