It is my pleasure to be your hostess in the Color Challenge this week. Our colors are Real Red, Whisper White and Silver. The dessert option is to make a Valentine's Day card.
I picked these colors before I ever saw the Hero Arts kit for February, but the stamps were so perfect for the colors, as though they were made for each other!
What a cool effect, with tiny bits of silver flecks on the red letters! Just as if I'd planned it that way. But I have to be honest and say, no, it was a mistake—a happy one to be sure—but a mistake nonetheless.
I stamped the red letters twice, using my MISTI to get good coverage. Now you see, this is where my impatience and lack of planning came in. I should have done two things at that point: (1) heat the red ink with my heat gun to get it completely dry, and then (2) use my powder tool over the white layer to make sure no little specks of silver adhered where they shouldn't be. Yep, I missed both of those steps.
I waited a moment, then stamped the decorative layer with VersaMark, and sprinkled with silver embossing powder. OH, NO! No matter how much I thwacked it, those specks of embossing powder stuck all over the red. I felt sure I would need to start over, but decided to go ahead and heat it anyway, having come that far. Wow! What a neat effect! You can see that the underlying color of the letters is red, but they're covered with these teensy, tiny speckles of silver. I'm sure I could never duplicate this effect in a hundred years, but I really like it!
I think the rest is self-explanatory—found some retired red DS paper with silver glitter, added a strip of glimmer paper and a few sequins, and called it done! A card for my DH for Valentine's Day.
Thanks for stopping by, and please play along with us this week!
