A friend of ours lost her son to a sudden heart attack last year. He was only a year ahead of me in school, so was still rather young. She had also lost her husband several months before that, so she has had a rough time of late. Following a discussion in the forum here at Splitcoaststampers, I figured a "Merry Christmas" card was not really all that appropriate for her. I had recently gotten the "Lovely as a Tree" stamp set, and decided to make a winter scene card with that instead.
I cut a piece of mixed media paper to 4x5.25". Using my Stamp-a-ma-Jig, I positioned & stamped the first (closest) row of trees in black ink. I stamped the next-furthest row in Charcoal, and the most distant trees with Soft Granite. I varied the position of the stamp each time, so it didn't look like just the same image over and over.
I used Distress inks to blend for the sky, making sure not to go down into the snow area. I also used a blender pen & Shaded Lilac Distress ink to add some shadows in the foreground snow. After I had finished all the inking, I added stars with a white gel pen. I matted the panel, and adhered it to a white card base. Our friend really loved the card and the sentiments that my mom & I wrote inside.
