This card is going to Teapotter Ann's (annsforte) Aunt Mimi. My card won't reach Mimi before Christmas so I decided to make a general card without a sentiment.
Throughout the year I try most of the techniques here at SCS, very often I don't have success, but I do love the results.
This was one of my favourite 'failed' backgrounds that I have had in my stash just waiting to be used.
I wondered what was wrong with my texture paste when I was trying to stencil the flower...turns out I was having a seniors moment and I was using Gesso instead of paste. I tried to plump it up a bit by adding white paint.
I applied distress inks to the stenciled flower and blasted it with my heat gun. Bubbles started to appear as the paint was melting. I had to cut the left hand side off as the paint started to smoke and it looked a bit burnt.
The background is a combination of alcohol inks, distress inks and rubbing alcohol. There was a chemical reaction that caused the glossy paper to turn matt and marbly. It looks great in real life, but I don't think it would be easy to reproduce.
Because I had to cut the burnt bit off, the panel was too small to fit the die-cut frame. To make it look like I had done this on purpose, I edged the panel with gold Twinkling H2O and added some to the centre of the stenciled flower.
Thank you for looking.

Your "reject" turned into a beauty....WOW I think you have every medium on here but the kitchen sink! The flower is lovely and that bg is so rich looking. I'm sure Mary will be impressed by this Susie masterpiece.
Beautiful flower on your so called failed background! You tickle me, Susie, because you couldn’t fail at any card! It is always beautiful art, and this will for sure uplift Ann’s aunt!

Wow, Susie! Gesso, textured paste, chemical reaction, or whatever; the flower is striking on the awesome background you created! Your card is splendid, my friend! Everything you make is awesome, whether it is burnt or not! Hey, send the burnt piece my way; I'll take anything you discard - regarding cards of course!! Merry Christmas, sweet Susie!!

Straight into my favourites, even though there won't be notifying this weekend, so I'll tell you now. Susie, it's gorgeous, classy, elegant. LOL at the burnt bits, I get those too! Did your photo paper not go all bubbly? Mine does, I've got to remember not to use heat with it.
