This is for Polly's brilliant mixed media challenge. Pol introduced Dale Chihuly's incredible glass blowing website. I could spend a week looking at his work.
I started out using one of his pieces of work, then got carried away and just went with all the colours and let the colours mix and flow.
The rain, sentiment and Silhoutte umbrella girl are a set from Visible Image. They are a small stamping company in South Wales UK. You can find them at visibleimage.co.uk. I found a supplier here, so I am guessing there will be stockists in the USA.
On the purple panel I tried the alcohol technique, using alcohol reinkers and alcohol. A few circles appeared but nothing like other samples. I tried again using distress inkers. Both cards looks terrible so I got out the good old Dylusions ink spray and my can of ironing spray.
I just kept spraying the Dylusions ink onto aluminium foil, sprayed on ironing spray and smoothed it around, then I held the card in my hand and let the ink flow down.
Stamping on the backgrounds was near impossible. If you look at the leg on purple girl, it looks like patterned stockings...this is how everything looked!! I tried 5 different brands of ink.
In the end I got out a black Sharpie and went over all the silhouette and sentiments. In the Dale Chihuly spirit, I added squiggly circle stamping and white pen doodling.
Thanks so much for looking, I had the best time making these.

You've captured the Chihuly spirit brilliantly!! He is a native son of the Pacific Northwest area and we are famous for our rainy weather which lasts roughly from November until May. Seriously. Choosing a fabulous image like this with that awesome sentiment was truly inspired.

Oh, wow! Sis, these are beautiful and such fun! Sounds like you really had "fun" experimenting with all the ink/techniques, but the end result is fabulous! I love her stockings -- what a great "whoops" that resulted from the inking problem. Love the silhouette, and what a great background for the sentiment! Love your "signature" doodled borders too! Squishy hugs and love, sis!! Always! xoxo

Oh, Susie, your did a remarkable job capturing the essence of Chihuly's marvelous pieces! Despite the experimenting with so many mediums, your card turned out magnificently!! You have achieved the look of rain drops for the two lovely ladies with their umbrellas! Great artwork, as usual, my friend!

Before reading the sentiment, I thought. Oooou, Susie designed mystery scenes!! The only thing mysterious is how AMAZING these colors blend and work together! Marvelous inspired colors and design Susie!!
As always, Thanks for your detailed description; just as enjoyable as your grand artwork my friend!!

I wish you could post me some sunshine too...and I'd send you some rain in return so that you could put this great sentiment into practice! They are both gorgeous, especially the green/ yellow one, and the doodled circles make me think of old cobbled streets. Great take on Polly's challenge.
I see you used photo paper. I can tell you from much experience over the years that not all photo papers are equivalent to glossy card, and not all gloss photo papers are created equal, so I'm not surprised you didn't get the effect you were looking for, but glad it led to such a great rescue job. A lot of photo paper fails have ended up in my bin rather than my scrap box, which tells you how totally disastrous they were!
