Every year I both stress over and look forward to making my father-in-law's birthday card. Why? Well, he still has the first birthday card I made him back in the first or second year my now-husband and I started dating displayed on their fridge! That's both an extreme honor and a challenge to 'keep up the good work,' if you know what I'm saying!
Thankfully, my love of nature mixes well with his favorite sport, deer hunting (in Minnesota, we like our lakes and we like our deer hunting hehe), so it's a challenge I do enjoy but a challenge nonetheless. I don't want to dissapoint him or miss the mark!
With his approaching birthday on my mind, I was super excited that last week's Clean and Simple Challenge was to feature a creature or a feature of forests - in MN, our forests are full of the regal whitetail deer! I also wanted to try a different spin on this year's card - whereas usually I do a brayered background of some sort on his cards, I wanted to try a more masculine version of watercoloring this go round. I rather like it! I'm also excited it fit with the challenge at http://caswatercolour.blogspot.ca/20...-reminder.html
The buck "embellishment" was created by cutting out six pieces with the die and adhering them with glue. I sandwiched the swirly scribble "wreath" between a couple of those layers so that pops off the back panel somewhat as well.
Thanks so much for looking!

This background is STUNNING! Gorgeous colours! Your buck silhouette and black sentiment are a wonderful contrast. Great design with your layered die-cuts. Your father-in-law is going to love this! Thanks for sharing with us at CAS Watercolour!
Love this! This would be perfect for several of my family members. My DH, DD & DS all went deer hunting this morning. Usually my FIL goes, too. I like it all!
