I decided to go with an non-traditional Santa with a VERY old retired Stampin' Up! set from 1993 called "Stitched Santa". I love how he is a woodland Santa, rather than the traditional red-suited Santa.
After stamping the Santa figure with SU Early Espresso Ink onto Whisper White cardstock, I used an Aqua Painter to take ink from the Garden Green ink pad and paint his coat. I then used the Chocolate Chip Stampin' Write Marker to color in the lines of his plaid coat. Where I wanted lighter versions of a color, I used my Aqua Painter to lift color from an ink pad or marker to paint the rest of the figure. I then "fussy cut" the Santa out using Paper Snips.
The forested background was created by slightly spritzing a piece of Whisper White cardstock, then running it through the SU "Woodlands" embossing folder to give extra deep and crisp impressions. After the embossed image had dried completely, I used a retired SU Cream Caramel marker to color in all the indents in the birch trees.
The "snow" that the Santa would be standing on was created by tearing Whisper White cardstock. I created both a taller "snow bank" piece, and a lower foreground piece. Both were covered with Wink of Stella, with EXTRA Wink of Stella going on the torn edges of the paper to give the snowbank extra sparkle. Both were trimmed to the exact width of the embossed panel. The taller snow drift piece was glued to the embossed panel using Tombow glue. The foreground snow piece was attached with several Mini Glue Dots to give just a tiny bit of lift that increased the shadowing against the taller snowbank.
Finally, I used Adhesive Foam Strips to mount the Woodland Santa as if he were standing in the snow.
I played around with placement of several traditional greetings, but finally decided I liked the simplicity of the muted colored Santa standing in the quiet snow-covered forest far better without any sentiment.
I am rating this card as a difficulty level "3" out of 5 because of all the careful coloring and fussy cutting of the Santa.
