We have a friend who is blind. Her birthday is tomorrow, so of course I "had" to make her a card. She is difficult to create for, because she can't see images. I find I have to push myself to think outside the box a little, and incorporate as many tactile elements as I can. For this card, I decided to go with a cupcake. I die cut a circle from a scrap of cardstock, & cut that in half for my "cake." I colored molding paste with Ground Espresso (who doesn't like chocolate frosting?), and used a palette knife to spread it on my cardstock. Then I set that aside to dry completely.
I created my card base from white cardstock using the HOTP template, and cut my patterned paper panels to fit, then adhered them in place. I backed a piece of teal cardstock with teal fun foam, using Stick It adhesive on both sides of the foam. I die cut my greeting letters from that, and adhered them to a strip of yellow cardstock. After I burnished them down, I adhered the strip to my card base.
I cut a strip of the same cardstock I'd used for the letters for the cupcake wrapper. I punched one long edge with my border punch, and scored between the scallops. I accordion-folded that. By this time, my "frosting" was dry, so I glued that piece on my card. I had to used hot glue to attach my wrapper, so it would stick quickly and stay put. I die cut a cherry from red glitter cardstock, and glued that to the top of my cupcake. Hopefully our friend will be able to enjoy this card!
