I have long admired Karen Dunbrook's amazing watercoloring and incredible CAS card making skills. I had this beauty in my favorites. How I wish I had her talent and I love the Penny Black stamp she used. I couldn't find anything comparable in my stash so I went with this jumbo Dahlia that I knew I could watercolor. I kind of cheated on white highlights by embossing in white to start my watercoloring. This also helps my feeble painting skills by keeping me within the lines better! I started with the darker purple then mixed the Lilac and Sugar inks with water to add the lighter shade. I gave the bg a wash with plain water then added the blue. I wish I'd paid better attention to Karen's card, because I think her white spaces are very effective. I went back and added some splashed spatter with the pouncing technique that was shared on Tuesday. I spattered over the flower as well with the darker purple. I also used my brush to add darker blue around the edge of the flower and through some mesh. I ended up framing with the Razzleberry because the white wasn't as effective as on Karen's since I didn't leave white along the edges. Lots of lessons learned and I will definitely try again though I like the end result okay.

Great case of Karen's card. I love your background and the dahlia is very pretty. Wonderful verse, of course.

I would find it very hard to emulate Karen's beautiful CAS designs, but you rocked your take on hers, Gail. The white embossing keeps with the lightness of design. And I really love that Scripture.

I love this beautiful card and you are most kind and way too generous to me with you comments. I am thrilled and so happy you chose to case my card out of all the great talents here...such an honor.
xx Karen
