The Friday Free For All Challenge, Your Happy Place 9/29/17, was to make a card that shouts happiness. Robin wanted to fill the gallery with happy, smile-making cards. I'm happy to oblige!
When I thought of "happy", I immediately thought of my dear hubby, the fun we have together when we take our Airstream trailer out for a road trip, and a favorite sentiment stamp that I love to use. Woodgrain also makes me happy, so I started with a pre-cut Woodgrain tag that was on my work table.
I was delighted when I found this little Doodlebug sticker set in my sticker drawer. It's called "happy camper!" - perfect for the happy challenge, don't you think?
After fiddling with layout of the stickers for way too long, I decided the only way to balance the design was to use a wrap around vellum sentiment panel, and drop some of the stickers onto the vellum. So far, so good. Except that there weren't enough little stickers included in the set to fill the space. Ugh! Now what to do? When the search for a second set of stickers failed, I decided to make my own.
I was able to use the discard from the sticker sheet to cut some graduated tiny hearts and stars. I matched the color on the original stickers by using a yellow Sharpie marker and a SU marker. Because I used the leftover sticker sheet, the sheen looked the same as the Doodlebug stickers. My favorite smile-maker touch on this card are the teeny-tiny stars I added on the trailer...I wanted to call attention (in a small way!), to the sentiment on "happy camper". Also added a wee heart onto the door, just because!
I had so much fun with this challenge. The stickers gave me fits from start to finish, and yet somehow ended up sticking where they were supposed to. I was reminded how much I appreciate having The Simon Says Stamps Holiday Shapes die. It is such a useful little die - it has 4 different sizes of little hearts and 4 tiny stars, all on one die. I use it many times throughout the year to add a just-right-sized star or heart to a project. Don't know if it is still available, but if so, I highly recommend it!
And I highly recommend that you play along in this happy challenge! It's fun and oh so satisfying to think of those things that make you happy.
Thanks for swinging by and looking at My Happy Place!
