This card was made for Thank Goodness It's Friday Tic-Tac-Toe Challenge #127: http://tgifchallenges.blogspot.com/ From the tic-tac-toe matrix I chose the diagonal features Die Cutting, DSP, and Paper Piecing.
Since I'm in the holiday card making mode, and I just got some new Stampin' Up! stamp sets and dies, I immediately thought of a winter scene.
I used the corner dies from the SU Card Front Builder Thinlits to cut the holiday flowers and leaves in the upper top corners of the 5-1/4" x 4" Whisper White panel. After removing all the little pieces I put Double Sided Scotch Tape on the back of the panel to span all the little holes. Then I used the same two dies to cut out SU Real Red cardstock, but before running it through my Big Shot, I put four dryer sheets that I had folded 4x directly under the die. This made it so that when the cardstock was run through, all the Real Red die cut pieces would stick to the dryer sheet bundle so I could easily pick each die cut piece up with a tweezers and lay it down in it's corresponding hole on the Whisper White panel. The Double Stick Tape made sure each little piece stayed in place. I did the same thing using Garden Green cardstock to capture the leaves so I could set them in place. The tiny berry cutouts were just too small to pick up and place in their respective holes, so I just glued on a piece of Real Red scrap cardstock on the back of the white panel. (Be sure the tiny little holes are empty, and don't have double stick tape showing through them.)
ONE tree pair from the same Card Front Builder Thinlits Die set at the lower half of the Whisper White Panel, then cut out two sets from the SU Nordic Noel green snowfall Designer Series Paper. Again, I used double stick tape on the back of the card, then laid down the first tree pair into the white panel. THEN, I used the tree pair die again and cut out a second set of trees OVER THE TOP of the first trees so it looked like the one lower down was in front of the first trees I had die cut. Again, I used double stick tape to keep the trees in place when I laid the DSP into the white panel cutout.
I glued a scrap piece of SU Garden Green cardstock behind the trees so that the entire back of the Whisper White panel was covered either by the green or red cardstock.
Then, I put the Whisper White panel through my Big Shot using the SU Softly Falling Embossing Folder. I did NOT run the panel all the way through, but only part way so the embossed snowflakes wouldn't imprint on the red flowers at the top of the card.
The entire assembled Whisper White panel was then glued to the SU Real Red card base using Tombow glue.
So, I've got die cut flowers/leaves and trees into which I've paper pieced the cardstock or Designer Series Paper. Thereby hitting all three elements in the tic-tac-toe matrix the challenge required.
