For MIX229 - Stuck in a Stenciling Rut. I don't use my stencils nearly enough, so this was a great push to do that. I used my Tim Holtz Layering Stencil (Lace) and did a stencil monoprint. It came out very soft and uneven, but I decided to go with it and even used a cream card base so that the print would just seem to fade off without any color at the edge to interfere. The focal image was one I did for a previous project and didn't use. The rest is the result of a lot of experimenting. I found that I didn't want anything to touch the edges of the card front and constrain the BG design, so everything worked outwards from the focal image, and the BG was heavier at one side than the other and had to be balanced with image placement and (my favorite ballast) sequins. Some happy accidents - that piece of gold-dot washi tape was holding down the edge of a roll of Tim Holtz printed tissue paper and it was too great to waste, so even though I never used the tissue paper, opting instead for strips of washi, that little piece of gold-dot washi got used.
Great challenge, Polly! I have a lot of stencils that need love and maybe this will inspire me to give them some!
TFL!

I like that stencil (may have to look for that one)...and I like the uneveness of your monoprinting....it creates a more unique look. That gold dotted washi is a brilliant detail...sonetimes the little things can bring us great pleasure The pop of blue behind the butterfly is great as are the two green strips behind it. Thanks for playing along and getting out of your rut!

I really love your design! It keeps my eye moving around the card. The different sizes of print, the sequins picking up the circles on the butterfly, the balance--it all works beautifully!
